The Penang National Park is formerly known as Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve. It is then declared a national park by the former Prime Minister in the year of 2003. It is located at the North West corner of Penang Island, Malaysia. It is situated in Muka Head, all the way till the end of Teluk Bahang.

Overview

The Penang National Park is the smallest national park in the world. It possesses more than 400 flora species and around 143 species of fauna. This national park was declared to preserve the amazing flora and fauna. Besides, it is very unique as it has a meromictic lake, wetlands, mangrove, coral reefs and also beaches for turtle nesting. There are many activities that can be performed in the park such as camping, bird watching and swimming. The mentioned meromictic lake is named Pantai Kerachut and this is what attracts tourists and visitors all over the world. It is not only famous in being a camping site but also with the turtle hatchery. If you are lucky enough, you can spot Green Sea Turtle on the beach, nesting. The next attraction in the park is the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in the year 1883 and it is accessible through Teluk Duyung.

There are quite a few nearby attractions. One of them is the Teluk Bahang Beach (Pantai Teluk Bahang). Teluk Bahang Beach is a friendly fishing village that located not far away from Georgetown. It is famous as you can enjoy the village lifestyle, a getaway from the hustle bustle city. However, it is forbidden to swim there due to the presence of jellyfish. Apart from Teluk Bahang Beach, the Batu Feringghi Beach and Tanjung Bungah Beach are very popular. You can spot all beach lovers spending their sweet time, relaxing while enjoying the sea breeze. When you are in Tanjung Bungah, do go to Penang Toy Museum. The museum offers over 100,000 collectibles and toys from tiny collections to life size figures. This incredible museum is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the first built toy museum in Malaysia.

Hotels in Penang are all in decent shape and service and so picking a place to stay would not be a problem. However, most tourists and visitors prefer staying in the hotels in Gurney (Persiaran Gurney) as it is the heart of Penang. Almost everything is there including a shopping mall, various hotels, hawker centre and even the view of the beach with pedestrian pavement installed. During the night, crowds and flocks of locals as well as tourist will just stroll along the pavement, enjoying the sea breeze after their dinner or supper.

Transport

From Penang International Airport, the best way to get to the Penang National Park is by a cab ride. It will take about 45 minutes to reach your destination. You can also get to the park by bus, either from with Rapid Penang Bus or Hin Bus Company form Komtar or Weld Quay Bus Terminal.
